Description
The Educator of the Neuro ICU will serve in a brand new state of the art 15 bed inpatient unit.The Educator will work in cooperation with nursing leadership, staff, physicians, and members of related health services in order to create a learning environment in which nursing and other staff can develop and enhance knowledge and skill to provide optimal, achievable patient care. The Educator will serve as a role model, mentor, and key individual in the success of upholding the framework of philosophies and objectives of University Medical Center and the Nursing Services.
 
ORIENTATION
·        UMC General Hospital Orientation
·        UMC General Nursing Orientation
·        Electronic Documentation training
Individualized Unit Specific Orientation
·        Unit specific orientation is in addition to UMC’s General Hospital Orientation and General Nursing Orientation
·        During orientation you will be paired with an experienced nurse educator.  The preceptor is chosen to best fit your personality and learning style. Together, they take one set of patients and work as a team to obtain the best experience for the new educator.
·        Orientation length is individually based and will be determined by the preceptor, preceptee, and leadership team
·        Educator orientation will begin on day shift to maximize your exposure to procedures and physician rounding  
·        You will also have many opportunities for professional growth and advancement
Qualifications
 
·        Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
·        Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing required with a minimum of 3 years of experience in an ICU setting
·        Supervisory experience and or educator experience preferred
·        Current Texas RN license or eligible
·        Current CPR certification from American Heart Association
·        ACLS will be required once employment started (class will be provided if not certified)
·        Customer service abilities including effective listening skills
·        Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
·        Ability to perform work that requires walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting or patients with assistance is required
