Departmental Description

The IT Clinical Informaticist serves as the key point of contact between clinical staff and the Clinical Information Technology department. The IT Clinical Informaticist integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure the information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice. Collaborates with users of Clinical Information Systems to identify potential areas for improving Information Systems. This position supports in the implementations of Information System initiatives. This role has responsibility for functional leadership and day-to-day operational support of Clinical Information Systems utilized in patient care areas. This position will serve as a liaison in clinical application system initiatives to assigned patient care disciplines and the Clinical IT Department.  Serves as the internal nursing consultant to the Clinical Informatics Department and other IT Teams. This position requires close interaction with both clinical and non-clinical staff, physicians, hospital leaders, ancillary departments, and other IT departments.


• Must maintain a current CPR certification from American Heart Association
• Provides professional nursing care to patients and provides supervision and guidance to the members of the nursing staff.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.


• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing required
• BSN Preferred
• Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
• Five years of experience in a hospital clinical environment with working knowledge of nursing process and hospital operations.
• Experience supporting an automated clinical information system is highly desired.
• Working knowledge of Cerner desired.
