PART I - General Job / Performance Information
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Business or Health Care Administration is required. Two to five years of experience in hospital administration required preferably in a teaching hospital environment.
Environmental / Working Conditions
  • This position is subject to inside environmental conditions; Protection from weather conditions, not necessarily from temperature changes.
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
  • Executive Staff, Department Directors, Administration Directors, hospital staff, UMC professional staff, and Board of Managers.
Physical Capabilities
  • Work is of medium demand; walking and sitting most of the time while on duty. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Visual acuity and writing skills necessary for factual documentation. Hours may vary to accommodate needs of the patients and of the hospital.
Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hospital operations. Familiarity with hospital organization and functions of all departments within the hospital structure. Knowledgeable in the principles of personnel administration, leadership development, brand management, and financial management. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff, patients, hospital staff and Board of Managers.
  • Proven ability to transform processes, departments, and perceptions.  More than management, this entails a specific element of leadership:  to influence and create improved outcomes – through cultural and operational transformation. 
Job Description
  • Under the general direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall operations of hospital departments as assigned. The Executive Vice President of Operations duties include:
    • Oversee hospital operations as assigned
    • Assist in development of capital equipment and facility budgets
    • Monitor hospital financial performance and meet financial objectives
    • Lead in the development of strategic plan for the hospital
    • Lead in the development of hospital policy and procedures
    • Lead in improving operational efficiency and productivity
    • Implement the mission, vision, strategic initiatives and values of the hospital
    • Build cooperative working relationships with the medical staff
    • Develop, with the CEO, the leadership development initiatives and programs to continually improve leadership skills and talent
    • Pursue excellence in all areas of quality, process improvement, service, finance, and staff development for hospital operations
    • Provide oversight for VP and/or Senior VP positions – incorporating a wide range of operational functions and departments
