    • Interacts with all UMC departments, all medical staff departments, all HIM units, other healthcare providers, insurance companies, lawyers, all law enforcement departments, all branches of the military, State and Federal Agencies, Funeral Directors, Medical Examiners, and any other medical record requestors which do not fall in one of the above categories.
  • Job Description
    • The Release of Information Technician generally works under direct supervision. Responsibilities include various activities in the Release of Information section of the department. ROI is responsible for the retrieval of charts to be copied for the release of confidential information, assisting with walk-requestors, billing for copies of the record made, answering subpoenas for record copies, appearance in court, faxing of copies for further care, sending out billing statements each month, answering billing inquiries, filling out affidavits, entering all requests in the computer mail log, answering phones, processing copies of floor charts, responding to in-house requests for copies, and mailing out copies requested from various sources. In addition retrieve birth certificate information, posting to the birth register, and taking birth verification forms to Financial Counseling for dispersal. The Mail Tech is primarily concerned with picking up mail each morning, sorting and distributing it throughout the department, then entering the requests for medical records in the mail log. She pulls the requested charts, answers fax inquiries and answers the telephone.

    • None.
  • Physical Capabilities
    • Work is of medium demand; sitting and standing most of the time while on-duty. May occasionally be asked to move objects or files and documents as needed. Good verbal communication skills required. Hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate departmental requirements. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Practice customer service skills with patients, visitors, physicians and fellow employees.
    • Follow operating procedures regarding HIM and UMC functions.
    • Take the initiative and responsibility for completing assigned tasks.
    • Maintain awareness at all times of confidentiality and patients rights.
    • Computer skills to include main frame applications and PC billing programs.
    • Assist all requestors in a professional manner.
