  • PART I - General Job / Performance Information
  • Education and Experience
    • High School diploma or equivalent. Prior Health Information Management experience preferred; office experience and computer helpful. Prefer bilingual, English and Spanish speaking.
  • Environmental / Working Conditions
    • Work is of medium demand; sitting and standing most of the time while on-duty. May occasionally be asked to move objects or files and documents as needed. Hours of duty maybe irregular to accommodate departmental requirements. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records.
  • Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
    • Good verbal communication skills required.
  • Job Description
    • The Statistics Technician generally works with indirect supervision. The technician retrieves birth certificate information, posting to the birth register, and taking birth verification forms to Financial Counseling for dispersal and prepares and completes Acknowledgement of Paternity forms. Also types in TER to send off electronic birth information to the state of Texas within 5 days of the date of birth of the newborns.
  • Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations
    • Acknowledgement of Paternity annual certification.

  • Skills and Abilities
    • Practice customer service skills with patients, visitors, physicians and fellow employees.
    • Follow operating procedures regarding HIM and UMC functions.
    • Take the initiative and responsibility for completing assigned tasks.
    • Maintain awareness at all times of confidentiality and patients rights.
    • Computer skills to include main frame applications and PC billing programs.
    • Assist all requestors in a professional manner.
